So this is a project that Asher made back in '06. I'm not gonna lie: this jawn cranks hard. His style has changed dramatically over the years; nevertheless, this is a pretty nice project.

Simply put: dope mixtape!
First of all, props to homie Vizzy for having this contest hosted by 2dopeboyz. What he did was provide 16 bars and a beat and allowed anyone to submit their 16 to the song, and in the end he decided on who he thought killed the beat. In usual form, BrandUn murdered his 16, and so I wasn't surprised to hear that he was chosen. I'm not too sure who Hi Clas is, but he definitely did his thing on the song, too. Check out the final version!
The DMV's salute to a classic album! Yessir!
If you happen to be in the nation's capital on April Fool's Day, you MUST check out this event. While featured on XXL's cover not too long ago, Blu is definitely an underrated MC - seriously, peep his repertoire! Oh yeah, if you see me, wish me a happy birthday!
This is a pretty ILL interview, as Kid Cudi explains his origins (among other topics) and even answers calls at the Alife store! By the way, Eric from DC... who are you?! Get at us! LOL
Classic hip hop love song...I must admit, their hairstyle was always a bit much for me. Let it marinate!
This joint is hella fresh - straight hip hop from New Zealand, kid! ::in my b-boy stance::
This is a hella fresh freestyle by S-Preme who spits bars left and right and without effort, all while driving thru the Windy City.
Check it:
Phene is back at it; preparing for the release of his new mixtape entitled "This Is The PheneMix Vol. 2", which drops in April. In the meantime, check out this new joint that he dropped off. Congrats go out to Phene for picking up BEST MALE ARTIST & BEST MIXTAPE at the 09 PA Hip Hop Awards.
Fresh!!
If you're in the DMV on March 29th, check out this event! Great music, food, gifts, etc.!! Peep the flyer.
Where all my go-go heads at?!
Music has always been one of the driving forces behind the blog and, more importantly, our lives. Music possesses the uncanny ability to connect with the listener on an emotional level, thus coloring our moods and shaping our behavioral patterns. This ability to tap into our "emotional mind state", makes music an attractive art form, because it is able to produce different emotional responses for different people at the same time. The iLLVibes podcast was designed to embrace this notion of music as an emotional stimulus, and seeks to be the remedy for all that ails you.
When I was younger, I used to dub mixes from the radio onto cassette tapes, and I would play them over and over again until the tapes would physically "bust". Music was so important to me back then (and still is), as it helped me get through the day-to-day challenges that I faced in life. Although the age of information technology has brought about so many new advances, I also believe that it has also weakened our connection with the music as we are constantly bombarded by a plethora songs and images. With that in mind we have created a podcast which, similar to our blog, lacks a specific format and agenda and simply exists to provide you with that "feel good music" that interacts with your soul. We don't claim to be DJs, so don't expect too much in the way of scratches and breaks, but we do hope that the music on these mixes will leave emotionally stimulated and thirsting for more. Without further ado....
Note: If you like any of the songs of this podcast, please go out and support the artists. Without their tireless dedication to the music, none of this would exist!

Damn...today is a sad day. My dude let us know this is the last edition of flip it fridays until July 28th. Summer time and he is back. For now enjoy how dude flipped the classic ATCQ track. I love it when this track bumps at a party.
It's about damn time, I have been waiting for this moment for a minute. We are at iLL Vibes been following Wale since the beginning. I'm loving the single, I heard the rough cut at first and Lady Gaga was def a nice addition.
DMV has a reason to smile today. I'm happy the single leaked on 93.9 WKYS and that was a radio version that went around the blogs, acuse Kiss FM has def been one of my favorite radio stations in the area since I was knee high so it is good to see DJ Alizay, Funk Flex, and erebody get more exposure. What more can I say....
I have been jammin' to this joint for the past few days now, so it only seemed right to post the video. This LP was pretty nice, although it went under the radar. Supposedly, Kurious is currently in the studio working on his second album which will feature production by the Beatnuts, 88 Keys, Dj Hi Tek, Dame Grease, and others. Let it marinate!
Props to Gowhere for these tracks!
Get to know Diamond District: three cats from the DMV - XO, Oddisee, YU. Their song Who I Be really cranks!
This track is really fresh! I truly love what this dude brings to the table!
The homie QuESt killed this joint!
"A Culture VI Experience with Royce da 5'9". We sat down with him while he was finishing up his Street Hop album (we also got a listen - DOPE!).
We talked about Joe Budden's beat selection, Royce's work with DJ Premier, and doing shows with Slaughterhouse. He also talks about what separates Street Hop from his past work"
I don't even have to say anything about this; straight East Coast hip hop for your soul. Shouts out to The History of Mixtapes for sending this our way. I was astonished that I could not find this anywhere on my computer. For those that don't have the other ones, I will post 'em up when I get a chance. Just as a little background information for those that don't know, Primo basically put these together back in the day to expose music that he thought that was hot and believed people needed to be listening to. Classic!
My initial impression upon seeing this chair was that it is a modern day recreation of the stone-age chairs seen in the popular cartoon show The Flintstones. This chair doesn't look comfortable in the least, but for what it lacks in comfort (although I have never actually sat in it, so I may be very comfortable; although I highly doubt it), it easily makes up for in function. This aesthetically pleasing chair, which resembles obsidian glass, is actually a sound chair. Via Born Rich:
"The surfaces are connected with small devices that can turn nearly any flat surface into a soundboard. This chair allows listening to media devices without the need of traditional speakers. The chair translates electric signals into mechanical energy and causes the flat surfaces to vibrate and broadcast the sound. Each surface gives the music a different tone. The WUI sound chair also offers wireless connection to any Bluetooth-enabled music playing device. The best thing I liked about the WUI is its design and it looks a way different and inviting than most of the music playing chairs we have seen till date"

Behind every blog is a purpose, we hope. And so it is here, at Ill Vibes. There's no format, no organization, no agenda - simply a cornucopia of thoughts we hope to memorialize in this Internet medium. What common ground you may find is the interests shared among the administrators, four university students whose passions for music (especially the state of hip hop), art, travel, philosophy, comedy, dance, politics, pop culture, fashion, and - quite frankly - the good life have brought them together to share their essentials of cool. From reviewing the latest CD or introducing the world to the next incredible artist to documenting various travels or criticizing a latest concert, you'll find it all here and more! So enjoy, and definitely leave comments. Not only do we love to express ourselves, but one of our greatest traits lies in our listening to other people expressing themselves.
