Wale - "The Mixtape About Nothing" Release Event at Commonwealth

. May 31, 2008

The Illvibes crew was in the building for the Release Event for Wale's "The Mixtape About Nothing." Me and my homie Drew (check out his blog "Talk is Costley") rolled to the place thinking mad people were gonna be there at 1 pm...surely enough the spot started filling up at like 2:30 pm (lol). Also in attendance were Camp Lo, Tabi Bonney, and UCB. They only had a limited number of T-shirts/CDs so they did it raffle style as they handed out numbers to everybody and the first 50 could get the package, everybody else was short. Surely enough I got #98...and I was thinking "Aint this a b*tch..."

Wale came out pretty hype, dude came out mad happy and of course he should considering this mixtape is straight fire. He helped out calling the numbers for the lucky few that could get the merchandise and give him dap.

Throughout the process he was talkin with his crew about the Lakers - Celtics series and potential match up problems, you know how rappers and athletes roll, always talkin about each other.

Holla...finally he called that "98."

I got my number called and I gave dap to the man and congratulated him on the joint. I'm telling you, if you don't have this mixtape you better get it...peep our post down below to download it. The Opening Title starts the mixtape out with a bang cause Wale just spits ridiculous on the funky beats of the "Seinfeld" opening song. Check out the tracks "The Crazy","The Vacation From Ourselves", "The Artistic Integrity", "The Perfect Plan" and "The Star" aside from the already classic "Nike Boots" Remix with Weezy and the "Back in the Go-Go" with Pusha T and Bun B. Hell, check out all the tracks the mixtape is just sick.

...Oh yeah...the T-Shirt is Ill too....

Check out Wale's Latest Interview with "Wired" where he talks about The Mixtape About Nothing right here.

Wale - "The Mixtape About Nothing"...

. May 30, 2008

The time has finally come and Wale's The Mixtape About Nothing has officially been released. I don't remember the last time I was so hype about the release of a mixtape/CD. Well actually I do, it was Lupe Fiasco's The Cool. Anyway, if you are going to be in the DC Area, stop by Commonwealth as Wale is going to be there handing out copies of his new mixtape and giving out free T-shirts. Check this post by Elitaste. We over here at iLLVibes are so happy to see Wale doing big things and we wish him the best of luck with his new deal at Interscope. The DMV is on the map!!!! Without further ado, we present...The Mixtape About Nothing.

New Video: Cut Copy - Hearts On Fire

. May 29, 2008

I like the concept of the video, pretty simple with a good story, but I've been really feeling this song for a minute.

I Am Speechless....Kanye West "Flashing Lights #3 "

This video is very Michael Jacksonesque. The visual effects are very stimulating and it reminds me a lot of the movie/game Clue mixed with a bit of Thriller...What do you think? Check it out below:

Flashback Vid: Sublime - Doin' Time

With the summer comin in full effect, this song reminds me of how it feels when I start takin out the shorts, drivin with the windows down, sippin on lemonade, goin to th beach/pool, playin ball in the outdoor courts etc. Sublime was a nice group from back in the day, they were definitely alternative rock but they sorta had a hip hop vibe. RIP Bradley Nowell

When Pigs Fly....

. May 28, 2008

A couple of days ago a pretty strong tornado hit this pig farm in Oklahoma. Hundreds of pigs were sent flying the air for a couple of minutes. There were not fatalities, only bruises on cuts on the pigs. It's is pretty entertaining to watch...

Check the pigs starting to fly at 10 seconds...

The Leak #22: Naturally Feat Jade

I love the vibe on this joint, straight jazzy on some ATCQ "Jazz (We Got)" shit. Cop this joint and just chill listening to Jade collab on the vocals.

Best Line of the track is:

"I'm just like you/ I grew up in a rough neighborhood like you/
In college I was in the books like you, I was snoopin for clues just like Blue"

Here is what Factz had to say about the joint:

"Dna is a trait passed on from generation to generation. My father used to rap to me when I was a kid. So of course me becoming who I am today is natural. Over a smooth jazz track and the help of GFC's new artist Jade, I explain how music is as easy as breathing. Light an incent, sit back and enjoy. I now present, Naturally."

Mickey Factz feat. Jade - Naturally

Look out for Mickey's EP this Winter "The Achievement"

The Dark Knight...

A few days ago, we dropped a post with a bunch of upcoming movies that we all want to see. I must say that I am most excited about The Dark Knight. Know the Ledge recently posted a video with the first seven minutes of The Dark Knight. At first I opted to wait and watch the movie in its entirety, but I could not resist and ended up checking it out. Now I can hardly wait for the movie to drop as the clip was that good. Click here to check out the clip. The Dark Knight drops in theaters July 18, 2008.

Ol Dirty Bastard - Dirty Minded Documentary (3 Part)

Just came across this ODB Documentary...I was definitely cracking up at various parts of the documentary. Check out 1:35 on the first video. I don't even know why they asked him that question. They should have known that ODB would not give them a regular answer....haha...Props to sTiCkEfiNgAz for the upload. Enjoy!

Also, be on the lookout for the new ODB Documentary on his life and death. Check out the trailer below:

This Bear Is Nice...

. May 27, 2008

A reporter was filming live in a canoe on NBC's Today Show and tried to make it look like she was in a deep flood. Halfway through the clip, two men walk across the screen and reveal the water is only about 6 inches deep. Matt Lowry and Katie Couric then proceed to clown her....hahaha. Check it out!

Classic Video: The Fugees "Ready or Not"

I love this joint! Watching this video makes me wish they would resolve their differences and drop another album. As long as they don't pull a Dru Hill...haha. My hope is that Lauryn will get better and the Fugees will reunite similar to ATCQ (btw...any word on a new album?). Enjoy!

XO ft. Wale "Ridin' (Remix)"

. May 26, 2008

I peeped this post by our friends over at DCtoBC and decided to drop it. I am really feeling Wale's verse. Supposedly it is one of the singles off the "takeover: pt.2 mixtape, dropping 6.1.08". Enjoy and make sure to visit DCtoBC.com.

The Action Jackson Tape...

Check out The Tempo Tantrum's ode to Michael and Janet Jackson. This mix was pure crack. I was jamming the whole way through.

I Can't Wait For These To Drop...

These kicks were unveiled at the recent Made for Skate Exhibition and I am really excited about their Winter '08 release. I am not a huge fan of mids though and I wish they would tweak the cream color that appears on the top portion of the sneaker. I still believe that this is a pretty solid SB release. Be on the lookout!

One Of The Ugliest Customs I Have Come Across...

I saw these kicks yesterday via the forums at Sole Collector and could not believe how incredibly ugly they were. Apparently they were inspired by Marty's futuristic hat in Back to the Future II. Someone even had the nerve to get them autographed by Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown). I am glad these kicks are only customs and will never see the light of day. I was absolutely stunned by the comments they received over at Kicks on Fire. Is it just me or are people eating up any BS that comes out nowadays? They sound like groupies...anyway check them out and let us know what you think. "iLLVibes...Saying No to Ugly Customs"...

. May 24, 2008

"Lookin Boy" - Hotstylz Feat. Yung Joc

We heard this joint on the radio and think it's just horrendous...but we found this slideshow and it's a D minus now. This is probably the most random array of popular culture...please watch this video you will laugh...guaranteed.

Crazy Remixes Out There

A lot of good remixes have been comin out lately, check out these joints below

Kenna - Say Goodbye to Love feat. Lupe Fiasco

This song just went from an A to an A+ with one of the most underrated rappers in the game right now.

N.E.R.D. - Everybody Nose feat. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, & Pusha T

This remix goes hard...Lupe gets the award for best verse with his "high" wordplay.

Lil Wayne - Lollipop feat. Kanye West

Kanye West outshines Wayne yet again on another track (first joint was on "Barry Bonds")

W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. finaaaally!

N*E*R*D Movie to Come Out Soon

Apparently, with the help of Hype Williams, N*E*R*D is slated to drop a movie later this year. This is the information gathered from SOHH:
Christmas may come early for N.E.R.D. fans, as the group preps the release of their first feature film this December, directed by legendary hip-hop video director and filmmaker, Hype Williams.

While on New York radio station Hot 97 recently, N.E.R.D. front man Pharrell Williams revealed to host Angie Martinez that the band is gearing for the release of their first film. The movie, which is not yet titled, will depict the trio's musical journey from the recording process to tours.

"[The movie] is going to be like The Beatles' Hard Day's Night," Pharrell revealed. "[It's a] full length film. It's for our fans."

In addition to the movie, N.E.R.D.; which is comprised of Pharrell and Chad Hugo of super production duo the Neptunes, and their partner Shay Haley, the alternative rock/hip-hop band are prepping the release of their third studio album Seeing Sounds. The set's first single "Everyone Nose" just came out featuring actress Lindsay Lohan. The paparazzi queen plays a woman who is denied entry into the N.E.R.D club.

"Lindsay is a fan of the music," said Pharrell and Chad. "She's super talented. She can act and she actually can sing. Her, Samantha Ronson and that whole crew are all nice people. They just get the bad end of the stick sometimes."

N.E.R.D.'s Seeing Sounds is slated for release on June 10.

The Cleveland Show...

Here at iLLVibes, we are huge fans of the show Family Guy. So it should come as no surprise that we are happy about the new spin-off, The Cleveland Show. I saw this the other day on Yeezy's blog and decided to go on Youtube to see if I could find a teaser or something. Here is the official description released by FOX:

"Many years ago, CLEVELAND BROWN (voiced by Mike Henry) was a high school student madly in love
with a beautiful girl named DONNA. Much to his dismay, his love went unrequited, and Donna wound up
marrying another man. Cleveland once told Donna he would always love her, and if this man ever done
her wrong, he'd be there when she called.

Well, this man done her wrong.

Donna's husband skipped town with another woman, leaving Donna with a daughter and a baby. Now
she's come to Cleveland and offered him another chance at love. Unattached after the Loretta-Quagmire
debacle and true to his word, Cleveland joyously accepts and he and CLEVELAND JR. move to Stoolbend,
VA, to join their new family.

Once in Stoolbend, Cleveland has a few surprises in store for him, including a flirtatious new stepdaughter, a 5-year-old stepson who loves the ladies, as well as a collection of neighbors that includes a loudmouth
redneck couple, a British family seemingly stuck in the Victorian era and a family of bears living at the end of the block.

FAMILY GUY was only the beginning. Get ready for THE CLEVELAND SHOW (working title)!

The series is written and executive-produced by Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD), Rich

No word yet on a premiere date. Check out the teaser below:

HTC Touch Diamond...

One & Co has collaborated with HTC of Taiwan in order to create this sleek and classy handset. At approximately 11.35mm thick, the HTC Touch Diamond handset combines "hi-tech prowess with intuitive usability" to form a pocket sized smartphone with an exhilarating design. The front face is smooth and clean while the back contains a unique faceted design. As stated on the HTC website, some of the phone's highlights include:

  • 2.8-inch touch screen, with four times the pixels of most phones
  • Vibrant TouchFLO 3D user interface, responding perfectly to your finger gestures when scrolling through contacts, browsing the web, and launching media… all vividly displayed as photos and artwork powered by the 3D graphics processor.
  • HTC Weather - providing a constant view of weather at home and abroad.
  • Surf and download at broadband speed with HSDPA internet connectivity.
  • 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera for quality stills and video.
  • 4GB of internal storage to preserve more photos, music, files and exchanged data than ever before.
  • Integrated GPS for use with maps software for a full turn-by-turn satellite navigation experience.
Definitely dope...oh and if you are interested in copping this phone, the price tag is around $772. I might have to save up for that for a minute...haha....Check out the pics and video below:

Mickey Factz - The Leak #20

I know I am a little late on this but, this track is too hot. I'm loving the sample from Lauryn Hill's unplugged CD back in 2004.

This is what Mickey Factz had to say about the track:

"So this week I decided to smooth things out a bit and talk about an
old relationship I was in. I loved the girl and I was still feeling a
certain way about her so I felt like I needed to write about it. I
heard this track from Ms. Hill and decided to build on it. Every word
in the song is true. We're still friends to this day"

Also, be sure to check out the newest group, a 19 year old duo, with GFC New York, FKi. Their upcoming cd will be called "Zoolander" and this is their first single "Lookin Fly" with Mickey Factz

Your Mom Wears Nike...

A few weeks ago, we dropped a post with a series of old sneaker commercials including a few British Knights commercials. At that point in time we thought that BKs were nearly extinct. However, we recently got an email from Chelsea at Karmaloop informing us that they will be re-released soon and will be available via the online store at Karmaloop.com. Although they are not up on the site now, you should expect to see them in the near future. In the meantime, Karmaloop TV has dropped a few clips with some of the old BK commercials for you viewing pleasure. Check them out below:

GITD at Nissan Pavilion

Yes, the iLLVibes Crew made an appearance at the Glow in the Dark tour at the Nissan Pavilion this past weekend. Guess who decided to make an appearance during the NERD performance? That's right, none other than Chris Brown himself, spazzing out while NERD was playing their new material. That song is incredible live:

Spazzzzz if you want to!!!

"Pain's a Small Thing to a Giant"

I've been on TI's "No Matter What" for a minute and decided I needed to post the lyrics, which are very introspective and moving. To hear the song, here's a Youtube version:

Peep the lyrics:
Never have you seen in ya lifetime
A more divine southern rapper with a swag like mine
Facin all kinda time but smile like I'm fine
Brag with such passion and shine without tryin
Believe me, pains a small thing to a giant
I was born without a dime, out the gutter I climbed
Spoke my mind and didn't stutter one time
Ali said even the greatest gotta suffer sometime
So I huff and puff rhymes, lyrics so sick with it
Set the standard in Atlanta how to get get get it
So you up and coming rappers wanna diss, just kill it
I'm officially the realest, point blank, period
Whether I still live in the hood or just visit
Whatever you can do in the hood I done did it
That's why the dope boys and the misfits feel it
This still the city long as tip live it, listen

I ain't dead (nah) I ain't done(nah)
I ain't scared(of what), I ain't run(from who)
Still I stand (yeah)
No matter what VA here I am
I ain't break(never), I ain't fold(never)
They hate me more(so?)
Yeah I know
But there I go
No matter what shortie, here I go
No matter what shortie

You let the blog sites and the magazines tell it
I'm showed to be jail til 2027
Rather see me in the cell then
Instead of this new McLaruen
God will take you through hell, just to get you to heaven
So even tho it's heavy, the load I will carry
Grand is still buried, when is still sharin?
Apologies to the fans, I hope you can understand it
Like a change in direction, even when you ain't planned it
All you can do it handle it, worst thing you can do is panic
Use it to your advantage, avoid insanity matters
To conquer, every obstacle, make impossible possible
Even when winning illogical, losing is still far from optional
Yeah they wanna see you shot up in the hospital
But, one life like punches, block the counter like a boxer do
Been locked inside this casa too long, I did a song
To make it known that the king lives on Pimpin

I ain't dead (nah) I ain't done(nah)
I ain't scared(of what), I ain't run(from who)
Still I stand (yeah)
No matter what VA here I am
I ain't break(never), I ain't fold(never)
They hate me more(so?)
Yeah I know
But there I go
No matter what shortie, here I go
No matter what shortie

Even the solitude, that still know how to do
I show you how to do, what you do, you ain't gotta clue
All you do is follow dudes, sound like a lotta dudes
I'll weather whatever storm, make it out without a bruise
I understand why, now when my hands tied
They take shots cause if I'm out there it's a landslide
But revenge is best served as a cold dish
And suckas will get served better know this
Guess it was understood, for me it was over with
But I don't quit, if you ain't noticed yet
They couldn't wait to say goodnight shorty
So they can try to rhyme, act and look like shorty
Go get a beat from toomp, and make a hook like shorty
Before ya know it I'm back what it look like shorty
I lost my partner and my daughter in the same year
Somehow I rise above my problems and remain here
Yeah, and I hope the picture painted clear
If your hearts fill with faith then you can't fear
Wonder how I face years and I'm still chillin
Easy, let go and let god deal with it

I ain't dead (nah) I ain't done(nah)
I ain't scared(of what), I ain't run(from who)
Still I stand (yeah)
No matter what VA here I am No matter what
I ain't break(never), I ain't fold(never)
They hate me more(so?)
Yeah I know
But there I go
No matter what shortie, here I go
No matter what shortie

Great Article about N*E*R*D and Interview with Pharrell

Check out this article about N*E*R*D concerning their new album Seeing Sounds and their hometown Virginia Beach (757 stand up!!), among other things.

Also, click here to view an interview with Pharrell by Portfolio Weekly - a very good read! The IV crew just recently saw the Glow in the Dark tour, and based on the new material we heard live, this album is going to be ridiculous - as the article states, the album goes back to a "frenetic, grittier style that allows them once again to go 'all over the place' with their music."
