Sampling Debate
One of my favorite blogs right now is Hip-Hop is Read, which occasionally provides its readers with the original samples used by modern-day producers in their hip hop and R&B albums. However, a controversy - and more accurately, a debate - has been brewing between such "sample providers" such as Hip Hop is Read, on the one hand, and producers/artists who argue that by providing such samples, these sites take away from the mystery of finding such exclusive samples, on the other hand.
What I really enjoy about this blog is that it's willing to educate the readers (even in a non-biased fashion) about this debate and let its readers comment on the two sides. For more information on this debate, check out the following blog post.
Justice - Phantom Pt. II (New Video)
Justice released a video for "Phantom Pt. II" a while back, but recently another video has surfaced for the track directed by Daniel Bloomberg that is pretty nice. The video is funny as it reminds of high school days and classic food fight scenarios. It is also reminiscent of the humor in their video "Never Be Alone." Check it out and drop your thoughts.
For those Dog Tag Lovers
Jabra has recently released their bluetooth dog tag headset which not only picks up calls for you but also houses a mic and buttons for you to control your music.

Seduction Lessons - Course to Boost Birthrates in Singapore
Due to the city’s low birthrate the Singapore government is offering its students lessons in seduction. Seriously.
Students of two polytechnics earn two credits towards their degree if they choose the love elective. Activities for seduction include watching romantic films, holding hands and one I don’t quite get - the love song analysis. Student Isabel Seet, an 18-year-old mechanical engineering student says: “My teacher said if a guy looks into my eyes for more than five seconds, it could mean that he is attracted to me and I stand a chance.” Boy talk about high expectations. The course teaches about love, sexuality, and the importance of family life. The teachers or “trainers” are provided by the Social Development Unit, a government match-making agency. Oy Vey!
But it is not so easy to put Singaporean youth in the mood for love. Another student who did the course, Kamal Prakash, said: "I'm not really looking for a girlfriend now as I want to concentrate on my studies."

Finally, a cool kitchen computer (concept)
Forget space, it seems as if the kitchen is the final frontier for computing. Companies have tried for years to create a computer that offers the right mix of design, functionality, and price so that people feel comfortable incorporating it into the household hub.
But even a jaded geek like me has to admit: the Kitchen Sync concept that recently received an International Housewares Association design award looks pretty darn cool. The device combines the best of finding recipes on the Web (collaboration, annotation, and search) with the best of physical cookbooks (portability and durability around liquids). You can use it to store and instantly annotate recipes you've found online, as well as plan menus and generate shopping lists. You can take it into the kitchen with you as you cook and use it to watch cooking videos or chat with other cooks via the Web. When it's not in use, the Kitchen Sync sits in its base charger, which is stored out of the way of kitchen spills.
What I like about this idea is that it is just a waterproof wireless peripheral--there are no moving parts, and the device doesn't try to be anything more than a durable, flexible thin client. What I don't like about this idea is that it's just an idea; the pessimist in me fears that actual execution of the concept would require high-cost or bulky materials that would detract from the device's simple usability. Nevertheless, the concept acts as a clear beacon of where kitchen computing should be going.
Ignorant???

This flight sim can help get a pilot's license
VRX may have trumped other racing simulators with the "Triple Screen Limited Edition 001," but what about gamers who would rather take their skills to the air? The aptly named HotSeat, which is no stranger to ground racing either, has taken its efforts aloft in a big way with its latest Flight Sim Ultimate Chassis."
In addition to the panoramic view created by its three 22-inch LCDs, the chassis features six speakers, 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound, and a custom quad-core PC with 4GB of memory and a 512MB Nvidia graphics card. And Dvice says the FAA-approved software can even count toward 2.5 hours of actual training for a pilot's license. The only catch is the $17,250 price. But if you didn't choke on that, and you're looking for even more nausea-inducing adventure, consider checking out FAO Schwarz's "Morphis ESP" for $300,000.

Labels: SneakersMario Launches His "Do Right Foundation" at Challengers B&G Club in LA
Labels: Community Outreach
The singer Mario launched his "Do Right Foundation" last Wednesday, March 12th at Challengers Boys and Girls Club in Los Angeles. The mission of "Do Right Foundation" is to focus on and provide role models for underprivileged youth whose parents suffer or suffered with substance abuse. In addition to providing role models, the Foundation also provides home tutoring via the Catapult Online program and Dell sponsors computers for the children. As some of you may know, Mario revealed last year on MTV that his mother is a drug addict. I find it admirable that Mario is using his own experiences and hardships to address and assist children coping with this problem in the community.
Keep up the good work Mario! Holla!

Nike Zoom Kobe III - "Genius Campaign"
The marketing behind a basketball shoe has come to be predictable, but when I saw this commercial for Kobe Bryant's new shoe, the Nike Zoom III, it was pretty refreshing. It's nice to see a funny side of Bryant instead of that typical image the media creates of him being standoffish and too serious. Nike got Kobe Bryant ballin like Einstein, Da Vinci, Mozart, and Carver. Peep the wordplay with the accomplishments of these geniuses and Bryant's style of basketball. Unfortunately for KB24, I personally think the shoes aren't that nice, but I'm feelin the commerical and they are probably nice on the court...drop a line and tell me what you guys think.
Remote control Hummer H3: no driver needed
Here's one that's sure to chap the hides of eco-warriors everywhere: An engineering lecturer from a university in the U.K. has converted a full-size Hummer H3 into a remote controlled toy. So those folks who get bent out of shape when they see people commuting alone in ginormous SUVs will really love the idea of a Hummer that can pollute without anyone in the car. Now that's progress.
James Brighton from Britain's Cranfield University converted the new right-hand drive version of the H3 in about a month's time. No doubt it's certainly an impressive feat of engineering; the car can climb a 16-inch vertical wall and operate in up to two feet of water.
The press release sent out to journalists touts the creation as "the ultimate boy's toy." I admit, aside from the "wow" factor, this is one I just don't get.

What if Mario was Real?
Labels: Design
So I saw this picture from the folks over at Pixeloo of this rendering of Mario and man it is sort of creepy, check out the stubble on his chin and those eyes. Pretty funny stuff, all of a sudden Mario doesn't look like the same iconic video game hero...what y'all think?

Facebookers, Beware
Apparently a Canadian student, although eventually not expelled from his university, was considered a cheater for starting a Facebook group in which solutions to assignment problems were provided. The professor, requesting that the students work independently, noticed the Facebook group and relayed the information to the university's administrators. When news broke out about this situation, many debated whether such online networks, perhaps analogous to a group of tutors, were also a way for people to cheat. What do you think?

Apple considering clamshell iPhone?
Apple could be embracing the clamshell aesthetic for a future iPhone.
The key to this design is having touch-screen capabilities on both the top and bottom of the phone when it's open. This design goes a step further, as well, in that the closed cover of the iPhone could also have trackpad capability. PC makers have experimented with this, adding some basic buttons and capabilities to the covers of closed notebooks. Apple's patent application describes how you could use the closed iPhone as an iPod, with controls for advancing to the next track, adjusting the volume, and so forth.
It's quite possible that Apple could be considering other form factors for future generations of iPhones, but I wonder how the touch-screen keyboard and the video player would work on a clamshell model where the one big screen is now divided across two panels. Patent applications aren't necessarily indicative of product plans, but they often provide hints of what companies are thinking about down the road.

BAPE Star Search
Pharrell and Nigo have teamed up to find the next greatest female diva, one who can market herself all over the world. Click here for more information. The winner will record her album under the BAPE Sounds record label and receive production from both Pharrell and Nigo. I'm very interested to see who the individual selected will be and how successful she will become.
While Pharrell appears interested to find a Japanese artist, I'm sure his focus will not be limited to Japan alone. What about a female selected from each continent to form a female group? That's just my idea. ;D

What is in the water in Houston and Denver?
The NBA this season has definitely been entertaining thus far as we have seen several all stars traded away with Kidd in Dallas, Gasol in L.A., Shaq in Phoenix, and of course Garnett and Allen in Boston. Right now, the playoff chase in the west is paper thin with the 1st and 8th seed separated by only 4 1/2 games compared to the 24 1/2 game gap in the East. Yesterday was yet another amazing day in the NBA as the Houston Rockets kept their 22 game winning streak alive beating the Lakers (without Gasol) and the Denver Nuggets beat out the Seattle Supersonics by 52 points scoring 168!! Be sure to watch the next Houston game against Boston tomorrow night at 9:30 pm on TNT which is sure to be a classic game!
