To be designated Person of the Year is no small matter, although that's entirely disputable given the designation of George W. Bush and such controversial figures as Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Ayatollah Khomeini. Nevertheless, the symbolic event of electing Barack Obama and who and what he represents made such a designation quite clear from the beginning. Quite simply, the momentum behind this election questions - although doesn't replace - the history that has infected and plagued this nation, a small step toward true equality and justice.
