Okay, okay, yes I was excited about Michael Phelps, and I was definitely blown away by other magnificent performances by other US athletes. But, to me, what was the ultimate culmination for American sports was the gold medal victory by the US men's basketball team. That was the main reason why I wanted to watch the Olympics, and nothing more could've excited me than a victory by our NBA stars. Truth be told, the rest of the world is getting amazingly good at this sport, but we are the true warriors of this sport, and nothing would've shocked me more than another less-than-steller performance by our boys on the court. So this is to them - the Redeem Team, the core group of guys who focused for three years to get to this point, all the while supporting the other athletes donning the Red, White, and Blue.
I have to give a special shout-out to D-Wade for taking over by pouring in 27 points (21 in the first half!) and to Kobe for taking over at the end, finishing with 20 points. In the end, while it was a very close match, with Spain never letting up, the fellas stepped it up and finished with an epic performance.
D-Wade's thoughts:
Of course, shout-out to Women's Basketball, Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Beach Volleyball, Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's 4 x 400 Track Team, and to that dude Bryan Clay (did you see his decathlon performance?!?!) for bringing in that gold, as well!!!
