Denon DP-200USB Turntable with Automatic MP3 Encoder

. Apr 23, 2009

From Urban Daddy:
For those occasions, there's the DP-200USB, a breakthrough turntable from Denon.

The trick? It converts your budding vinyl collection—and if you haven't started, Booker T.'s excellent new Potato Hole is a good place to start—into MP3s, and then sends them right to your computer. (This is accomplished via USB; hence the catchy name.) From there, just drop those files onto your portable music player of choice, and you're golden. (After all, an iPod might produce lousy sound, but it's still easier to haul around than a big old record player.)

But that's only half the story. The killer app is that it automatically labels and tags your MP3s for you, using the same software iTunes does. This will save you precious hours that could be better spent with your loved ones (by which we mean your new records). Better yet, with its sleek exterior, this thing looks as good as it sounds.

Which reminds us: it also plays records.

PSA: Vote & Support Good Music

. Nov 4, 2008

I know you have probably heard it from everybody today, but please remember to go out and vote. It only takes a few moments of your time, yet it determines the course of the next four years in this country. No matter who you choose to vote for, it is important that everyone take the time to make their voice heard (especially the younger generation) because there are many changes that need to be made in order to address the problems that we are facing today. On another note, please go out and support good music. While I am fully aware that many people have already listened to/downloaded the Q-Tip album, I urge everyone to take some time to support all the effort that he put into this project. I chose to wait until today to listen to the album and the wait was well worth it. I am albout halfway through and Q-Tip just "cleaned them sh**s [my ears] out". The production on the album is crazy and I think my favorite joint right now is "We Fight/We Love" f t. Raphael Saadiq. GO VOTE AND SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC!

DaScratch brings touch control to DJ hardware

. Sep 22, 2008

DJing with your laptop has loads of advantages, but emulating realistic DJ scratching can be tricky. Some people solve the problem with Wiimotes, but the most common workaround to get vinyl-like control of your DJ software is to convert your old turntables into digital-MIDI controllers using expensive systems such as Serato, Torq, or Traktor Scratch. Now, if you want to get all touchy-feely with your digital-DJ software without breaking the bank (or your back), Stanton is offering a new option called DaScratch.

DaScratch is a USB-powered MIDI controller that offers touch-sensitive control over your DJ software. Stanton includes integrated-software support for popular applications like Traktor and Serato, as well as advanced MIDI support for more musical apps, such as Ableton Live.

DaScratch does more than just give laptop DJs scratch control over their MP3s. The trackpad at the center of the system responds to multiple gestures, which can control EQ settings, effects, crossfade, and even trigger samples or cue points. A selection of buttons placed around the DaScratch touchpad offer some standard playback controls for those times when multigesture touch control is too much for your brain to process. The DaScratch system has a retail price of $299 and is due out in October.

Interesting sound from Kanye; he seems to be doing more singing lately. I must say I do like it. I wonder if the he will be using the auto-tune on the studio version...

Noo (pronounced New) is a hip hop artist out of D.C. Via his myspace, "Noo is lyrically Rakim with a D.C. dimeanor, A rap style like no other and swagg out of this world". I definitely love this track because he manages to fuse both hip hop (Dougie Fresh's "The Show") and go-go. Check it out below.

I came across these mixes a while back and I can't remember where I found them, but they are pretty crazy. They were labeled with DJ TMaS so I tried to look him/her up and I could not find anything. If any of y'all know anymore information about these or actually put this together yourself, let me know. Check them out below. You will not be disappointed!

Asher Roth - Throw Some Water On Em

Asher hits the booth and delivers. Check out his version of "Throw Some Water on Em." Click the pic for the song!

In other funny news, John Brown (remember him?), self-proclaimed "King of the 'Burbs," apparently is none too happy about the rise of Asher Roth. Here's what he has to say about Asher and how Asher apparently stole his style:
The comments made in your recent interview with the SRC burbs biter needs to be addressed. Since your publication initiated the conversation regarding the show, I think it would be appropriate to hit ya’ll up about responding to this fuckery. This dude and his Scooter Libby sidekick are so obviously a bunch of Stans that watched the WRS show and then completely bit the whole burbs branding and lifestyle that I represented on the show and continue to represent in hip hop…all of sudden this kid pops up on SRC with Don Cannon’s co-sign and his moto is “burbs first to murder a verse”, his lead off single is “I Love College” and talks about his weekly “keg parties” with videos of him playing beer pong with red keg party cups. He says “he’s not a rapper”, which is like my slogan I used to sum up my philosophy on the show: “I’m not a rapper I’m an entity”. His photoshoots are very similar to my photoshoot with Complex magazine as he tries to all of sudden embrace suburbia. So to hear that he watched the white rapper show religiously and then turned around and bit my whole burbs style is disgusting. It’s like his team tried to take the branding from John Brown and the sound of Eminem and create a Burb Frankenstein.

JT's Performance at the ESPYs

If you missed Justin Timberlake's "I Love Sports" performance, here it is. Besides the fact that I was a bit disturbed by his use of rap and reggae music for the black athletes (Tiger Woods included, even though he's only 1/4 black), I thought this performance stole the show:

Oh yeah, who knew that Greg Oden is a beast with the piano?!?!

I was thinking about it the other day and I realized that we rep the DMV, but don't post any of DC's own musical creation, Go-Go. So from now on interspersed between all our other music and video posts, we will start dropping some of that DC crankage for all you Go-Go fans and soon to be Go-Go fans. Check out this dope set by the Uncalled 4 Experience. The Uncalled 4 Experience, formely known as UCB (The Uncalled 4 Band), has been dropping serious heat in DC for over 10 years. They have released 4 independent albums (Neighborhood Life, Back 2 Basics, We Got Next, 4 Play) along with tons of mixtapes from their live shows, and besides performing regularly in DC at spots like Mirrors and the Lime Club, their recent accolades include various performances with with iLLVibes favorite, Wale. The iLLVibes Crew was actually fortunate enough to see Wale and the Uncalled 4 Experience perform together a few months back and I must say they really put on a great show. For more information about the Uncalled 4 Experience, please visit their myspace and be sure cop their latest studio album 4 Play. Shouts to Modi from BCtoDC.com for the S.O.B. video.
