iLLVibes Presents...A Night at The Go-Go

I decided to put together a mixtape of my favorite go-go cuts. I found out that a lot of people, even people from the DMV, are not really familiar with the go-go sound. In no way am I a guru or an expert on go-go music, but I have been listening to it for the past five years or so and have really come to love it. Go-go originated in DC in the late 1970's and has primarily remained localized in the DC area. As a result of this, people living outside of DC often report a certain degree of difficulty in their quest to learn more about go-go and to listen to the music. Because of this, I compiled a playlist of tracks that I believe really epitomize the go-go sound in order to help spread go-go to those unaware of its presence in DC culture and to those who are curious and desire to learn more. I hope you enjoy this compilation, and feel free to leave comments. Peace!

I was blown away when I heard Melo-X's full instrumental tape called "Dusty Time Warped Vibes." The beats are mad inspirational, they even got me freestyling over some of them. They reminded me of some J Dilla and 9th Wonder stuff and I could almost hear Little Brother rapping over it. I would love to see what some artists could do over some of these beats. There is not doubt that this guy has talent as a producer. So please do yourself a musical favor and get this damn mixtape to vibe to when you are in your car just driving or whatever, I'm telling you the sounds will move you to spit.

These kicks came out a couple of months ago, I think back out in May 2008 but I ran into them the other day and I just thought that the concept was dope. I'm a big art fan, and the merge of Nike and Art had me done. I mean fashion is pretty much art itself, its a form of self-expression as you selectively choose what you are going to wear (I'll spare the lecture and keep it short). Piet Mondrian was an artist that was hooked on order and rules, as you can see his artwork pretty much manipulated the shape of canvas with a series of squares and rectangles. He also strictly used primary colors like yellow, white, blue, black, and red. It's beast to see those principles somewhat emulated in these kicks.....

AZ - N4L Mixtape...

I have been a fan of AZ for a long time. The first time I heard him was on Nas's Illmatic on the track "Life's a Bitch". When I first heard that track, I was like "Damn, this dudes flow is impeccable". I was not left hanging either as his debut album"Doe or Die" which came out a year later was a CLASSIC, with tough cuts like Rather Unique, Sugar Hill, Ho-Happy Jackie, and the list goes on. Fourteen years after that initial release, AZ is still dropping new music, and although "Undeniable (2008)" was nowhere near the caliber of "Doe or Die", his flow is still untouched. AZ's flow which features multi-syllable rhyme schemes, internal rhymes, and boasts a large vocabulary is still one of the best flows that I have ever heard. On AZ's newest mixtape effort, N4L (N****s For Life) which was officially released today, he teamed up with DJ Absolut to put out 16 brand new tracks ready for fan consumption...haha...Check out one of the first singles from the mixtape, The Secret featuring Raekwon and Charlie Rock. I really like the track, but after a first listen I am not really feeling the beat. It reminds me of the Kriss Kross "Jump" beat on crack, but maybe that is just me...haha...Anyway check out the mixtape below and for those who want to reminisce with me for a minute check out the Suagr Hill video below.

Conduit Restaurant in San Francisco...

Check out this dope restaurant designed by Stanley Saitowitz. I think it's very innovative and I like the use of materials. The one thing I can't understand about this restaurant is the BATHROOM. Everything else in the restaurant has an industrial feel, but the bathroom does not flow with this concept.Don't get me wrong the bathroom is pretty cool as I like the clean look and simplicity, however I don't think it fits with the natural look of the rest of the restaurant. Steroids Allegations...

If you are tired of hearing reports in the news dealing with new steroids allegations against some of your favorite athletes, get ready for more of them to be thrown under the bus. According to a recent report via NBC Sports and the NY Times, scientists at Ceres Nanosciences claim that they have developed a test that is capable of detecting HGH in urine. Relying on their nanoparticle research, that can capture these microscopic elements in fluids. This new technology means that drug testers would be able to detect the presence of HGH up to two weeks prior to testing. According to the article, this technology will not be ready for another 6 months, meaning that athletes who are currently using HGH better kick the habit or risk public criticism and suspension.
