Exclusive Interview with Greenspan (DJ Benzi x Ill Roots x Ill Vibes x Judah) from illvibes on Vimeo.
Mannnn, I meant to post this the other day when Jamie sent this over, but it totally slipped my mind. So after perusing the songs I've downloaded over the past couple of days, this immediately jumped as a must-post track. This track is the first single off the Rappers I Know x Funkadelic Freestyles x RealMangoJuice project, Volume 1: The Off Season. Based on the fact that this is the first drop, I know immediately that this will be a heavy project, which features all original tracks from Oddisee, Danny Brown, X.O., Finale, Kay of The Foundation, Che Grand, Senor Kaos & DJ Spinna, Trackademicks, Akrobatik, Mr. Lif, and many more!
So this is the Re-mastered version - yes, yes, that official drop for the official project! There are so many favs on this project, but I'll let you decide which ones are yours!
No lie, I've been bumpin' this project ALL DAY. CS Rucker has some official production from international producers Drixxxe, Freon, Kid Rolex, Robot Koch and others. CS Rucker is a native of both Mexico and the US, a fact easily extracted from his sound, as he treads a careful line between international appeal (take, for instance, the heavy electronic production) and US appeal (easily noticeable based on his Beastie-Boys-like flow and themes). This is another iLLVibes Recommended Project!
I've been meaning to post this dude ever since finally listening to this Free-P. As expected, the concept of the project is K. Sidney's ode to his city, the City of Wind, good ol' Chi-Town. Be sure to download this project and let K. Sidney know how you feel about his conscience-driven mixtape.
Mannnnnn I'm really diggin' the sound of this song. Gowhere affiliate S-Preme laces this chill track with awe-inspiring lyrics regarding the potential for success and the desire to hear himself on the radio, all the while struggling to reach his goals. This is the lead track off his forthcoming mixtape The Sicktape: Volume 2, presented by Keving Nottingham and GoWhere and hosted by Terry Urban.
We posted previously about Aristotle's Lyceum back in April. Definitely peep that project if you haven't done so already. In this track "All That", the students of Aristotle take on the Southern drawl over this heavily horn-infused track to discuss their future intentions to "take all that", requiring the rest to "fall back".
We had the fortunate opportunity to kick it with this talented producer/DJ and co-founder/owner of Guns-N-Butter and Innerloop Records. In Part 1 of this 4-Part series, J-$crilla provides us insight into his origin and how he developed his skills as a producer and DJ; into the beginning of Guns N Butter and Innerloop Records; and even baseball, among other topics. J-$crilla's "Culture of Honor" mixtape, dropping on August 25, has features from JR Writer, General Steele, Cassidy, Nickelus F, Reef The Lost Cauze, Oddisee, K-Beta, Sketch, Ankh Amen Ra, Judah, Muggsy Malone, Ra the MC and others.

I'm actually a huge The Postal Service fan, and I wasn't surprised at all that my favorite band from this area had the creativity to remix a group of that caliber. What do you think? Also, I blame myself for not making one of their live shows; apparently, it's out of this world!
I've been meaning to post this because this is just an exceptional interview, supplied by the homie DP. Peep the Sixty4Harmony site because it's truly DOPE and because there's some incredible footage of Summer Jam there!
We talked about what he thinks of Vancouver, the passing of music icon Michael Jackson, what his role in the new generation of hip-hop is, why his music is "for the world" and much more.
WARNING: Listening to this record at high volumes may cause an eargasm. This joint is dope.
"Originally this was only supposed to be a couple of songs. When I say a couple, I mean like, two. I’ve been calling back and forth talking with Grip H all day, as some more of our old stuff may (or may not) be hitting the Kevin Nottingham site soon. I will let time tell that story. What I present to you right now though, is the latest effort from Grip H and me as The Perfect Median, the group from which most of my body of work comes to date. Go to the jump for the download link.
The way this record is put together is as follows:
Side A is two older tracks that we recorded many moons ago. Not too many moons, though, cause I haven’t been making beats that long.
Side B is new tracks that we’ve recently penned and recorded. All of the beats were handled in house with the exception of the last track which was a 9th Wonder beat. Big ups to 9th Wonder (for not letting us officially use this beat, haha). So here is some more music for the $free.99"

Definitely one of the most anticipated projects this year. Let the homie know what you think!
I know we're all still waiting for his project to drop, but he's the type who will miss deadlines in order to make sure everything's perfect, as expected. Don't worry, it's coming soon!
I seriously do not know what they eat/drink/etc. in Australia to create these interesting electronic groups. Several months ago, we posted the video for "Walking on a Dream", and here we have an innovative depiction of the group's latest single. By the way, if you haven't seen Cut Copy or the Presets live or any similarly-related group, you're missing out!!
The homie J-Scrilla comes through with a heavy mix, taking us back and hitting us with some incredible instrumentals, mashes, and songs! Look out for the interview dropping soon! Exclusive!

Check out this new mixtape from the west coast native, Kali. Trust me people, it's certified dope. I was first put onto Kali a few months back while watching DJ GI Joe's live underworld show. Joe and Statik played Kali's "Kali Cali" almost every night. It didn't take very long for the song to become a personal favorite. Anyway, Kali is definitely aligned with the right crew right now. Statik Selektah's "Showoff Records" is making major moves this year (e.g. Reks, Saigon, Termanalogy, etc). Kali is also supposed to make an appearance on Statik's new album, "The Hangover", which is due out by the end of this summer. Without further ado...

This is a project you definitely want to download!
Wow, I was a little hesitant about sending over the instrumental (because of Wiz's drop), but Dre definitely did his thing on this track, seriously! Just let the music speak for itself!!
Oh boy! Judah always comes through to spit that DMV knowledge!

Behind every blog is a purpose, we hope. And so it is here, at Ill Vibes. There's no format, no organization, no agenda - simply a cornucopia of thoughts we hope to memorialize in this Internet medium. What common ground you may find is the interests shared among the administrators, four university students whose passions for music (especially the state of hip hop), art, travel, philosophy, comedy, dance, politics, pop culture, fashion, and - quite frankly - the good life have brought them together to share their essentials of cool. From reviewing the latest CD or introducing the world to the next incredible artist to documenting various travels or criticizing a latest concert, you'll find it all here and more! So enjoy, and definitely leave comments. Not only do we love to express ourselves, but one of our greatest traits lies in our listening to other people expressing themselves.
