Update: Adam Tensta

We've mentioned Adam Tensta a few times on the blog - even in our article about Daft Punk, back in February '08. I recently discovered that he's been in the US, putting in a lot of work - working with U-N-I and prepping shows with Mickey Factz, among a few things. In fact, he is taking over the Orisue blog until May 3rd, so check that out when you get the chance. Not only is he chronicling his day-to-day activities, but he's also giving away some free music, which I'll put down below if you haven't peeped his music.

At one point, he was in a video with Wale, so perhaps he's going to be a feature on Wale's new album or mixtape, I'm not sure. In any case, be on the lookout for him and his movement, and search for his name on our blog if you wanted to get to know more about him or peep his blog.

Foreign Exchange!!!

If you're up on the hip hop game, you know about Foreign Exchange - the duo who met each other on Okayplayer.com and comprised of Phonte from Little Brother and the Dutch producer Nicolay. Their first album, Connected, was an incredible display of every adjective you can think of, seriously. What was even more ridiculous was the fact that the two never met during the creation of their first album, thus creating a true foreign exchange (hence, quite a fitting name for the first album). Well, this time around, the two have connected together, as Nicolay has been staying in the US for quite some time, and I'm sure Leave It All Behind will prove as epic as the first album, if not more. Four years after the release of their critically acclaimed debut "Connected," The Foreign Exchange returns with their sophomore set, "Leave It All Behind."

Consisting of singer/songwriter Phonte and producer Nicolay, The Foreign Exchange came together via the online hip-hop community Okayplayer.com in 2002. After trading files through Instant Messenger for over a year, Nicolay (living in his native Holland at the time) and Phonte (a Raleigh, NC resident) completed their debut album before they ever met each other in person. The album, "Connected," was released in 2004 to positive reviews, and was praised by legendary DJ's such as Jazzy Jeff, King Britt, and DJ Spinna for its inventive mix of hip-hop, R&B, and electronica.

"Leave It All Behind" finds The Foreign Exchange much closer in geography (Nicolay has since become a resident of Wilmington, NC), but located much further from their hip-hop origins. The duo's second full-length is a dark, multilayered affair that features Phonte showcasing his abilities as an exceptional lead and harmony vocalist, while Nicolay extends his musical palette to include sprinklings of jazz, downtempo, and house. The lush, Darien Brockington-assisted "Take Off the Blues" picks up where Connected's sleeper hit "Come Around" left off, while the complex polyrhythms and dreamy synthesizers of "Sweeter Than You" are described by Phonte as "swing jazz for the next century." Marc Mac (of legendary UK production team 4hero), also contributes a string arrangement to the duo's glorious cover of Stevie Wonder's oft-forgotten 1991 gem, "If She Breaks Your Heart."

In addition to appearances from longtime FE affiliates Darien Brockington and Yahzarah, the album also features guest shots from producer/keyboardist Zo! and vocalist Muhsinah.

iLL Song - Jockin' Jay-Z

This song is hella fresh, and it'd be interesting to see what else comes from the Rocafella camp as the Blueprint 3 leaks. According to Mick Boogie, most of the production is supposed to come from Kanye West, and the one song that's supposed to have heads turnin' is called "Victory." Be on the lookout!

Double O of Kidz in the Hall Assaulted

I got this story in an email and I thought it was interesting. It's a shame this event went down as the Kidz in the Hall were supposed to perform at one of Hip Hop's largest concert platform, the Rock the Bells Festival, and they were a no -show. Love goes out to both Naledge and especially Double O. iLL Vibes wishes him a speedy recovery.

"Double 0 of Kidz In The Hall badly assaulted by security after performance; Management issues statement"

"Double O from the hip hop group Kidz In The Hall was assaulted by several bouncers early Saturday morning, July 26, while inside a nightclub in Tempe, AZ following a Kidz In The Hall performance. Group member and friend Naledge, who did not witness the assault on Double O, was arrested outside of the club. Naledge's attempt to get medical assistance for Double O was misconstrued as a hinderence to the investigation. Reports that no injuries were sustained are false as Double O was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries from the excessive force used by club security. On Sunday morning Double O underwent surgery for one of his injuries. He is still in the hospital, but in stable condition.

In the last 2 years, Kidz In The Hall have traveled to over 10 countries, have done 200+ shows and never before been involved in any altercation, big or small, with club or concert security, or police officers."
