Movie Trailer: Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island"

Scorsese....what more can I say (*Jay-z laugh*)? The guy did friggin' "Goodfellas" among other dope gangsta movies, directed MJ's (RIP) "Bad" music video, and did a cameo in Entourage last season. He is a cultural icon in the American movie industry. Enter, Dicaprio, I hated this punk in Titanic, but eventually he won over my attention with his convincing acting in movies like Catch Me if You Can, The Departed and Blood Diamond.

So I like this duo, they did The Aviator, Gangs of New York, and The Departed (straight gangsta movie), but the two are definitely switching it up with "Shutter Island." The movie is a straight slasher flick so it should be interesting watching Scorsese experiment with the horror genre.

Will it be Oscar-worthy or a bust? Time will tell.

Movies: 500 Days of Summer

Saw this movie yesterday with the girl. Had to say it did not disappoint. If you are looking for a chill movie that is real...check it. The movie is brutally honest about the boundaries and ambiguities about relationships, heartbreak, and friendships. Not to mention it is really artistically done as well as it just pours out with creativity and experimentation with different kinds of cinematography. Finally, it was pretty dope that they played some The Smiths (Shout to Theophilus London - big Smiths Fan)

On a sidebar, when I was watching this movie this 88-Keys track popped into my head from time to time.

Looks mad dramatic (guess that's why they put Mary J's song for the trailer) and it should be hella good....I mean come on Robin Thicke's wife is in it (holla). Monique lookin like she tryna get an Oscar too, but did you see Mariah Carey in the preview( eghck - kinda rough)

"I Like Gettin' High"...

A few days ago I felt like reminiscing to a 90's movie, so I checked out Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever". I forgot how many good actors were in this movie (Halle Berry, Ossie Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, and John Turturro). I also forgot that this film marked the beginning of Halle Berry's acting career. She played Gator's crackhead sidekick Vivian, a role that was flooded with cursing and one that required Halle to look tattered. I am definitely not used to seeing her in roles like this. For those of you have yet to see "Jungle Fever" here is a good movie synopsis via All Movie Guide:

"Spike Lee defines "jungle fever" as sexual attraction between members of two races. In his film Jungle Fever, he examines the repercussions of an interracial affair upon two very distinct communities. Wesley Snipes is Flipper, a happily married and successful architect, and Annabella Sciorra is Angie, an office temp. When she starts working in Flipper's Manhattan office, one day they look at each other and are soon having sex over a blueprint-strewn desk. Their liaison causes an explosion on both homefronts. Flipper's family consists of his father Doctor Purify (Ossie Davis), a former preacher; his mother Lucinda (Ruby Dee); his violent, crackhead brother Gator (Samuel L. Jackson); and his wife Drew (Lonette McKee), whom he loves, despite his sexual attraction to Angie. Angie's family is a typical Italian-American household from Bensonhurst. The movie also does a great job of looking at one of the biggest social issues going on in the 80's/90's - the crack epidemic. This movie was able to successfully depict the harsh realities of the crack epidemic ranging from its effects on crime to its effects on ordinary people and their loved ones. Despite this dismal theme, the movie was quite comical enlisting the help of Samuel L. Jackson as one of the crackheads. Check out this scene where Gator asks his younger brother Flipper for some money. I could not help but start laughing. It was very Dave Chapellesque and reminded me a lot of Tyrone Biggums.

Notorious...

Trailer for new Notorious BIG film dropping mid-January. I am not sure how I feel about the casting for this flick, but I suspect the soundtrack (Best movie soundtrack of 2008 = The Wackness) is going to be amazing. Hopefully this movie is not a bust. Regardless, I guarantee the theater is going to be packed with Biggie fans when this joint drops..

Miracle at St. Anna...

I really want to see this movie, and I cannot wait until it drops on September 26th. The movie is about an all-black U.S. division fighting in Italy during World War II. I have been a fan of Spike Lee for a long time idolizing classics such as Mo' Betta Blues, He Got Game, Crooklyn, Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, School Daze, and recently Inside Man. Despite the fact that Spike Lee has been involved in many recent controversies including his fallout with Clint Eastwood over the presence of black people in Eastwood's two movies about Iwo Jima, the comments made about Larry Bird, and his infamous quote about shooting Charlton Heston in 1999, I believe that he is one of the best director's in the game. The preview for this movie is dope, and left me wanting to know more. I must admit, that the previews I saw on TV did not give me enough storyline, however the preview I watched on Youtube was perfect. Check it out below. This movie appears to be loaded with suspense, drama, action, and mystery. If the preview is a good indicator of the movie this should be a huge success. The Wackness...

I just checked this movie out after reading a recommendation from Dan over at Elitaste a few months back. This movie was fresh, innovative, and really just a breath of fresh air because it was different from most of the movies coming out nowadays. It is a coming of age story of an unpopular kid named Luke (Josh Peck) set in the summer of 1994 in NYC. This film was originally a submission in the Sundance film festival, and I have since been checking out independent movies because I find that they are often very creative and original. While the film itself was pretty good, the soundtrack was amazing featuring classic tracks by ATCQ, The Fresh Prince, Boyz II Men, and The Notorious BIG making the visual experience that much better. Anyway I have said enough, but be sure to check out this movie. See the trailer below.

Terminator 4 Trailer!

Ok, in spite of how busy my schedule was, I had to check out the newest movie from the Batman saga, The Dark Knight, and let's just say (without giving away too many details), I was ridiculously pleased and, perhaps not too surprisingly, beyond-normally excited! But, of course, I'll let you decide for yourself. Let's just say that everybody and their mommas came out to see it early this morning (12:01 am on the dot!), with all sorts of craziness ensuing, such as people dressing up as the Joker and your usual antics when you have a million people grouped together for no other reason than to enjoy something during the summer. However, something else caught my eye, and no, ladies, sorry I didn't see you, but I (along with the entire audience) watched in high anticipation, with eyes glued to the screen, the latest trailer for Terminator 4. And guess who else is starring in this film, slated for a Summer 2009 release? Yep, Christian Bale! I swear, that dude is racking up some money, f'real. So enjoy the trailer below:





By the way, if you were wondering how much the Dark Knight made overnight, the number is $18.4 million, shattering what was once the record set by Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Now we'll wait and see whether it breaks Spiderman 3's opening day record of $59.84 million and the all-time best opening weekend record of $151.11 million (also set by Spider-Man 3).

The Dark Knight is Almost Here....

At 12:01, the wait is finally over and everybody can witness the buzz that "The Dark Knight"

has been getting for the last year. I really can't wait to see this movie. A black carpet was actually rolled for the premiere in New York City and people are the media/entertainment sphere are already talking about a posthumous Oscar for Ledger. So, in tribute to Heath Ledger and the release of this soon to be classic film I decided to get together several of the movie posters I have seen dispersed over the last couple of months.
